thisrecording:

the great spruce

Here’s a fun little fact: the island right next to Great Spruce Head is where Buckminster Fuller spent almost every summer of his life and built a couple early geodesic domes. If you look at the Penobscot Bay archipelago that these two islands are part of, it’s very easy to see how the Fuller family’s (Bear Island) and the Porter’s sprang apart from each other at one point in time/geology. At low tide, a rocky bar reveals itself to connect the two islands and one can easily walk across and back. Makes you (or at least me) wonder about and wonder at this place.
